Kurt Vonnegut and the fine art of telling tales

KISS also applies to story writing. I suppose part of the trick is dressing your basic plot outline in such a way that people don’t recognise (or don’t immediately recognise, if you’ve got a critic on your hands) which shape you chose. Outline #2 was P.G. Wodehouse’s favourite. Number 3 is of course fiendishly hard to spot. I’m still working on getting my first story to a point where I wouldn’t be acutely embarrassed by showing it to someone else. Soon, maybe.

Go on, bother me. You know you want to.
